The benefits of heterogeneity in spatial prioritisation within coral reef environments

چکیده

Coral reefs are highly vulnerable habitats, threatened by climate change and local anthropogenic impacts. Management is imperative, spatial prioritisation apportions the area of interest to inform investments scarce conservation resources. Spatially delineated planning units used make management decisions typically large enough contain significant natural variabilities, but ecological significance such variance seldom considered in decisions. On coral reefs, patchiness habitat quality within matters both ecologically functionally. Here, we show that considering within-planning unit influences location design reserve networks. Studying Timor-Leste, statistically model average cover. We compare priority areas for scenarios informed cover a baseline scenario with software Marxan. To further explain these differences, value including as metric prioritisation, created score. similarity between networks was only 57% protection, 44% restoration objectives. For objectives, inclusion improves benefit management. This project has shown novel way target restoration. These results demonstrate not mean (and, extension, reef condition) key criterion selecting marine actions, its must be improve efficiency actions

heterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings

from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...

Spatial and temporal distribution of larvae of coral reef fishes in northern Red Sea, Egypt

The larval community of coral reef fishes in the Red Sea was studied in coastal and offshore sites to determine the effects of the exposure to waves and currents and the distance from the shore in structuring the larval fish community. Plankton sampling from inshore and offshore sites and the exposed and sheltered sides of the reefs resulted in the collection of 2048 larvae representing 49 diff...

BIFURCATION ANALYSIS OF A DDE MODEL OF THE CORAL REEF

‎In this paper‎, ‎first we discuss a local stability analysis of model was introduced by P‎. ‎J‎. ‎Mumby et‎. ‎al‎. ‎(2007)‎, ‎with $frac{gM^{2}}{M+T}$ as the functional response term‎. ‎We conclude that the grazing intensity is the important parameter to control the existence or extinction of the coral reef‎. ‎Next‎, ‎we consider this model under the influence of the time delay as the bifurcat...

On the spatial scale of dispersal in coral reef fishes.

Marine biologists have gone through a paradigm shift, from the assumption that marine populations are largely 'open' owing to extensive larval dispersal to the realization that marine dispersal is 'more restricted than previously thought'. Yet, population genetic studies often reveal low levels of genetic structure across large geographic areas. On the other side, more direct approaches such as...
